The sole holder of planting and handling rights for Soreli in Greece
Kolios Group SA, which is based in Arta, recently acquired the sole planting and handling rights for Soreli in Greece.
Soreli is a tetraploid variety of A. Chinensis, with yellow flesh, and is a product of research by Dr. Raffaele Testolini and Dr. Guido Ciprianni at the University of Udine, Italy. The main characteristics of the Soreli variety are its brightly coloured yellow flesh, glowing bronze skin and the sweeter taste of the fruit. There are great opportunities to expand cultivation in Greece, and the Soreli variety, and yellow fleshed varieties in general, are prized in Asian markets which means that there is strong consumer interest in this crop.
Refrigeration Hours: Approximately 600 hours, 300 hours less than the Hayward variety.
Growing Season: : Either a week earlier or at the same time as the Hayward variety depending on the weather.
Flowering Season: Usually flowers 10 days before the Ηayward variety. This may vary according to the area and the weather. The flowering period starts around the middle of May.
Form of fruits: The fruits are oval-shaped and oblong, the skin colour is shiny brown, the flesh is bright yellow and they weigh 100 g. on average.
Harvesting and storage: Harvest takes place when the sugar content exceeds 8 Brix, in the first half of October.
With regard to demand, there is a strong demand for consumption. The fruit also has an excellent sugar to acidity ration. The fruit can be harvested over a period of 20-30 days with a sugar content of 8 to 12 Brix.
The shelf life of fruits normally lasts from 90-20 days. By using controlled conditions, shelf life increases by up to six months depending on the conditions and maintenance methods.
KOLIOS Α.Ε was founded in 1994, following in the successful footsteps of the family business KOLIOS Co which was founded in 1980 by Ioannis Kolios, who initially started trading in 1956. In the beginning the company produced and marketed fruit, especially citrus fruits, which it sold wholesale on the Greek market.
The company is involved in the production, trade and export – primarily of kiwifruits, but also of citrus fruits.
The company is based in Arta and has developed a very large distribution network in Europe, America, the Middle East and China
«The company imports chestnuts from China»
“In 2014 the company started operating private orchards of about 2000 kiwifruit trees of the Hayward and Soreli varieties”
